Power Through God

“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” Luke 10:19 NIV

In Luke 10:19, Jesus proffered the power to “trample on snakes and scorpions”. He also gives us all power over the enemy. How astounding is that! Power over the enemy. Yes, take it in because for the longest time I felt subject to whatever happened in the spiritual world whether it be good or bad, knowing this verse now, I completely rebuke that ideology.

Let me put forward an analogy for you; imagine you are visiting a loved one’s home and they have spent their time creating a beautifully designed cake. Your friend offers this cake to you; “I would certainly love for you to eat this cake I made just for you.” and you reply saying,

“Oh no I could never eat this, it’s too beautiful for me to eat. Why don’t you eat it?”

Do you see what I’m getting at? Today I’m talking about power through God. Our God-given power and how sometimes people take it for granted. I, personally, used to think it was blasphemous to know your (God-given) power until I recently heard the great preacher Andy Womack talk about how that is one of the worst lies you can tell yourself, in a sense, it gives one point to the antagonist of the story we call life. We are powerful - I believe great blessings come upon those who know that.

1 Peter 2:9 NIV says: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

You’ve now heard it right from the great Apostle Simon Peter, that we are royalty. Remember, Peter healed the sick and possessed with just his shadow because the power of God was so present in him. Therefore, it is not blasphemous to claim your God-given power. As long as we know that it is not by our own cause that we are powerful, but by God’s mercy and loving-kindness. The blood of Jesus flows through our veins and what an honour that is! Who are we to deny this great responsibility to; “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons” as Jesus tells us in Matthew 10:7-8? It is so very important to know your worth in Christ. We are sons and daughters of the Most High! I know, as a Christian girl, I have reaped the benefits of seeking the LORD and knowing my power as a daughter of God. Things like not seeking validation from others and growing through knowing His love for me.

Now it’s time to exercise the power given to you to glorify God, fulfill His will for you, and simply help people. It takes the faith of a mustard seed to move a mountain (Matthew 17:20) and I can personally bear witness to that. Ask the LORD to always be so present in you so that you may do great things. Pray that He will give you courage and faith to glorify Him by doing things out of your comfort zone. And to help you do it with brave humility. Now pick up your sword today and get to work.

“For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.” Romans 8:19 NIV
